Windows would not boot after windows update

After doing the test updates and an nvidia update, my Dell xps m1210 would not boot up. When I pressed the power button, the media direct light and the other lights came on but screen stayed dark. I had to power it off multiple times before it booted normally. Yikes!

Weird, I'll be on the lookout for the issue. Fellow m1210 owner here. These models are real finicky especially the GPU.

Try rolling back the NVidia update to the previous.

I have seen Windows having issues updating your system drivers in the past. I always update drivers from the manufacture, and only install updates for the OS itself.

If you let Windows update your Nvidia driver, then try to roll it back in safe mode, then install the latest driver from NVidia

Once the machine powered up properly, it ran well. Better even than before.

I powered it up and down- no weirdness, so I left on to see what would happen over night. This morning the PC wouldn't wake up- the power light was on and I could hear hard drive activity but screen was dark. I forced it into safe mode. Event logs showed a number of warnings and errors- Broadcomm reported network link down, bluetooth adapter failure, a platform firmware corruption across system power transition and WLAN Autoconfig service has successfully stopped. This all started shortly after
I went to bed so there must be a problem with the power management.

I did system restore and all is well for now.

Well, it's been a few days since my PC wouldn't boot. I did a system restore and completely disabled sleep. I reinstalled all the Windows updates and the PC is running fine now. It recovers fine on restarts and hibernation. I have never been a fan of the sleep option so I'm leaving it disabled.
