win 7 not genuine glitch with SSD drive.
I am using a 60gb OCZ SSD drive as my system partition and 2 1TB WD black drives as data in raid 1. OS is win7 ultimate. Fully verified and updated.
What happens is that every few days to 2 weeks, my system suddenly throws the windows not genuine watermark and black background. A simple re-boot fixes it every time.
Moving my internet cache to the raid drives has helped a lot, but it still throws the error every few weeks now.
MGADiag reports everything as genuine. (It better be...)
This does NOT occur if I use a normal hard drive as my system drive.
The theory is that the SSD moves a "fixed" file occasionally as part of it's internal wear leveling algorithm. Windows then does not see the file when it checks itself, and throws the watermark.
I really like win7, but it frustrates me that I have to purposely re-boot my computer every time it decides to do this. I generally only put it to sleep and only do a cold boot for updates or once a year for machine maintenance. Yes, I have computers that have run non-stop with XP for 3 years, no lock-ups or hard boots. It can be done.
Does anyone have any info on the SSD issue? I have read that Win 7 has SSD support built into it, so I am annoyed to have this problem.
Searches have not turned up any specific answers, so I thought I'd post here.
Any thoughts?
