Windows 7 SP1 feature suggestions / wishlist
This thread is for your SP1 suggestions - features you think were left out at RTM, or features you think would enhance your Windows 7 experience.
To start off, I would say 2 features need to be restored to Windows:
*put back the ability of users to re-arrange files in any order by drag-and-drop and have that order remembered by the folder, not just automatically sorting by name. This was a feature in Vista that somehow got removed in Win7
*put back the Advanced Tag Editor in Windows Media Player; again, another feature in Vista that got removed in Windows 7. I use XP Mode purely for this feature.
Additional features that would be very useful to include in SP1:
*add TV Show, movie, and music video metadata support to Windows Media Player, utilizing a comparable 'advanced tag editor' like the limited tag support in the Zune 4.0 software. Like it or not, tagging video is very useful to a growing number of people, and allowing tagging of video in WMP would be huge.
*add TV, movie, music video, and podcast libraries into WMP, and segregate podcasts out and away from music; so they do not appear in random playlists of music; these would feed from the Libraries feature already in 7
*add a TV Show library in the Libraries section that allows you to view your TV Shows by series, then by season, then by episode, mimicking a folder structure, using DVD cover album art for the series and seasons, and utilizing metadata entered in WMP. I know many video files do not support metadata, but putting it in a database or a hidden file will work for most end users.
*add a Movie library to the Libraries section so we can sort through our movies with album art and detailed metadata, regardless of the video file format they're in.
*add a Podcast library so we can store our podcasts there; better still that this carries into WMP so that our podcasts don't get treated as music when we create a randomized playlist for parties.
*in Windows Media Center, feed the TV Show, Movies, Music Video, and Podcast libraries into the interface, and use pivots above to sort our media collections.
*integrate the Zune marketplace into Windows Media Center to allow purchase of movies and TV shows within Media Center, allowing the use of the 1080p streaming and putting that media into the user's library automatically.
*add support for subtitles and multiple audio tracks in WMP and Media Center, so that users can simply right click and change audio and change subtitles if embedded in the media file currently playing.
*add built-in flac, ogg, and mkv support to WMP and Media Center.
Most of my issues are with media management, but that's where I spend most of my time in Windows, and it could use a big upgrade.
Anyone else?
