    Windows Update to the Rescue

I saw several people here complaining that Windows 7 lacked an integrated mail client in another thread, seems that has finally been added as of today via Windows Update.

    Hi Fizban,

I believe it will offer you the option to download various programs, including Windows Live Mail.

I already have WLM and the "download assistant".

This makes it more likely people will d/l those apps. , rather than having to go to a link to get them.

M$ probably think by making it optional., they will avoid trouble with monopoly commissions.

Hmm, I've received no such update in Windows Update and just checked in 7068 and I have it set for windows and other products from Microsoft updates. But, Windows Live Essentials isn't an integrated mail client per se, it's just Live mail along with whatever you want to install, i.e. WLM, etc. And you can get that either from the link in your start menu under Getting Started or by going to the website.

It was more a lack of windows Mail, which for allot of people is allot better Windows Live Mail, I don't use Windows Mail for one good reason and that's because I can't use my hotmail account with it, which to me just seems stupid.

Hmm, curious, haven't downloaded any of the Windows Live programs previously on Windows 7. Just did now via the update and the Windows Messenger UI is far prettier than the old version of messenger I had used on Vista. Is the image below what the one you downloaded via the link looked like or did they revamp them in the past few days before adding this windows update?

I think you were offered it precisely because you haven't already got
any Windows Live programs, together with the setup program and sign in assistant.

    I already have these
