    Windows Updates already installed?

Then why does Windows Update keep failing? Automatic updates have failed for at least a week now (no I did not install software so don't ask). When I try to manually install updates, this is the message I get:

"Update for Windows (KB977074) is already installed on this computer"

The following updates are listed in Windows Update as "failed" and/or "pending"
    978207
    972270
    974571
    975467
    978506
    978332/978331 (I assume I only need 332)
    977074

All of these updates show the same behavior when I try to install them, and Windows Automatic Updates has had no success in installing them either.

I suggest run "MS Fix it" from post 2 in aggressive mode,in agressive mode it is more effective. You can also try this tool Repair & Fix Windows Updates with Fix WU Utility | The Windows Club

If above easy things don't solve problem follow below:

1.Run cmd.exe with administrative previlliges (right click on cmd.exe) as admin and type:

    sfc /scannow

When it finish type in cmd.exe

    findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt

on your desktop appear sfcdetails.txt file

2.Run Readiness Tool Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista, for Windows Server 2008, for Windows 7, and for Windows Server 2008 R2
even if this tool don't solve problem it create CheckSur.log file in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder
    3.Download firegenul Altair Technologies Ltd.
    place firegenul.exe in C:\Windows\System32

next again run cmd.exe with admin previlliges and type:

    firegenul

it creates report from WindowsUpdate.log and is saved to C:\Windows\System32 as FireGenReport.htm
4.Prepare log from VistaSysInfoTool VistaForums SysInfo Tool

all files sfcdetails.txt,CheckSur.log,firegenReport.htm and log from VistaSysInfo pack to ZIP format and attache to post

This file is created by Readiness Tool. You have to first run Readiness Tool to receive CheckSur.log file

and cannot download "VistaSysInfoTool" but I will give you the files I was able to find/create.
I do not understand this.Link which I gave you work fine.Try this directly link http://www.vistax64.com/attachments/...ms-sysinfo.exe

    Relate to WindowsUpdate.log:

You don't have any errors only warnings i.e. 0x80248014,nobody know what it means,
another warning 800719e4 relate to issue with 3p security software, and 800f0816 relate to problem with time.Your sfcdetails.txt file is OK.Based on only these files is really hard to say what cause your problem

1.Try uninstall all 3p security software
2.Make sure the time in BIOS and in the system are correct.

If it don't solve the problem, please run Readiness Tool then you'll have CheckSur.log file in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder, and create report from VistaSysInfoTool

i tried running the "readiness tool" but no file called "checksur.log" was created.

What info did you want from the "VistaSysInfoTool"? there are many check boxes I can select; which ones do you need?

    edit: I selected all.

This is directly link for Readiness Tool for your system http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=167366

If you really ran it I rather suspect you have incorrect settings in "Folder Options" and you don't see correct file extensions and due to you see CheckSur.log file as CheckSur file.Uncheck in Folder Options "Hide extensions for know files" (details here Folder Options - Open) or use any 3p file manager for example Total Commander;there are also many various freeware file managers as well

What info did you want from the "VistaSysInfoTool"?
The most important are installed programs and services,

    Back to your thread:
You have installed a few programs from Stardock;programs from Stardock has been reported many times as reasons of issue with Windows Update.Especially many problems caused Windows Blinds -examples The page failed to load, Vista Update - Vista Forums

Uninstall Windows Blinds and other programs from Stardock

Another suspected is NetMeter.exe - I don't see Netmeter program in your programs list, possibly it is any unwanted adware NetMeter - NetMeter.exe - Program Information

Whatever it is,unistall it as well, some programs for monitoring networks can cause issue with WU as well.

Verify also security settings Rizone Security Restore 0.2.2.228 | Rizone Technologies

If none of above suggestions help you apart CheckSur.log prepare log from OTL (leave default settings) http://oldtimer.geekstogo.com/OTL.exe.In my opinion is worth to see more about Netmeter.exe file...

I rather suspect any 3p program cause your problem

    NetMeter is "spyware/adware" ...

download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop
    |MG| Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.44 Download
    * Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
    * At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
    * If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
    * Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
    * When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
    * Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
    * When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. Copy and Paste that log into your next reply.

netmeter is NOT "spyware/adware"! I should know; I downloaded it to monitor my bandwidith (there is a limit to how much I can download per week)

Also, I already have antivirus on my computer.
