I have system restore disabled so I cannot go back to old an version. Here's one ongoing discussion.
I know that some people seem to thrive on shutting off that functionality, but it's times like this that the tool comes in very handy.

ive had the exact same thing but i bit the bullet and did a fresh install, luckily i have 2 seperate harddrives that i do backups too so it wasnt to bad, this is very poor of microsoft to allow it to happen through a security update of all things! (shakes head in disgust)

not sure most news is talking about XP but somehow it happened to me on win7 Neowin.net - Microsoft investigating claims of wide spread BSODs due to recent patch

if you have win7, do a full image backup of system drive, just in case

well ive tested my issue and its the same update as XPs problem, although on windows 7 (not sure about the same BSOD, since i don't get that)

But its security patch KB KB977165

causes the systemt to reboot into recovery tool

No system store or cmd repairs work
