Windows Seven Build 7000 no longer genuine

Hello there, I have a bit of a problem that I would like some help with, so heres the details.

I downloaded the public Beta for windows seven when it was available, and I havent had any problems until today. When I booted up my laptop I was greeted with the "You may be using counterfeit windows software." message box, I then lost my wallpaper and the message in the corner changed, plus my activation key dissappeared as well. =/

Last night it was fine I had my wallpaper the message in the right hand corner was normal, and I was enjoying my PC as usual, only thing I think could have caused this is the fact that I changed my account password last night, though I doubt that could have any major effect.

Thank you in advance, TwilightTO

If you can still get to the internet, see if you can get to microsoft.com or mcafee.com. If not, then you are infected with Conficker worm.

Had this happen in Vista as well. Just put in your key, and you are set.

As for Conficker, just see if you can visit M$ on the web.

The 64bit 7000 build here never saw activation and still boots right up since the late January installation. That went on first being the first of the two to be downloaded there.

With a simple change of the admin password alone that shouldn't have been while not necessarily being any virus infection. As far as the Conficker that's an I-Worm type geared to make a "botnet" type system in order to hijack personal and other information and not the first variant to be seen since November 2008.

You can go to Symantec or download House call free at Trend Micro for a free online scan there. If you can log on you are not effected by that particular bug.

This has happened on and off to a large number of people, here and elsewhere. Usually re-inserting the key fixes it so start there and let us know what happens.

I think people are getting a little "Conflicker" happy lately too, and giving this April Fools worm more credit than it deserves. As NightHawk stated it's more a botnet worm and is highly unlikely to cause a myriad of other issues, in fact I doubt anyone who lives within a 10,000 mile radius of this website has come in contact with it.

Generally the media actually makes more noise about something like this over the facts. The latest Conficker is actually the 4th variant since last fall. How many have even heard it of it before this week? I wouldn't actually say that many.

With this being an I-Worm type you actually have to click on it somehow whether saving to a folder or trying to open it for a look is where you get the surprize with any of them.

The actual bug you have there is likely something in Windows like a now bad or missing file or seeing an unintended change from a partial or bad install of some program lately When going to make the password change and start up the next morning whamo something finally gave out.

The one thing too often forgotten about any beta is simply the fact that it is "beta" where crashes and feedback result in progressive builds seeing improvements. You have to expect possible crashes while testing is in progress.

They certainly don't call them "test machines" for nothing! [cccrashhh]
"7 you poor thing! I never meant to do that." oh welll... you just have to be prepared.

And part of that preparation is to keep that exact fact in the back of your mind at all times....

"This is just a beta....This is just a beta...."
