As I didn't have Internet access I was stuck -- for a Program I had PAID for and had a valid license. I managed to connect eventually via an old fashioned dial up modem --but what a mess.
I just hope that Windows doesn't go down the same path.

Absolutely agree; that kind of behavior is just disgusting on the part of the software vendors - for a product that you have paid for!! Hope I'm not digressing but I often feel the same way about software that you have to download for a paid product: I am thinking of purchasing an
Iomega external drive; excellent reviews apart from the fact that you have to download and register
each individual backup application (there are several)! (My) time wasted
