    dont do it

    unless you know somebody who has done this to a computer just like yours.. do not mess with windows 7. i have had nothing but problems from this OS. i have spent almost $1000 tryin to upgrade and my system still crashes 20 times a day. all my stuff worked fine under win2kpro. a few problems::

    my on board 128MB mirage 3d graphics card is now useless, sound also. had to buy new ones.

    messages saying::
    windows explorer has stopped working
    internet explorer has stopped working
    desktop gadgets have stopped working
    every app i have has stopped working

    full system freezes with no response

    blue screens

    full crash and reboot

    i'm suprized i was even able to post this.

    could plz use some help btw..

    You might have been better spending that money on a new system, but sorry to hear you're having issues.

    Have you tried to reinstall Windows 7, or tried a System Restore?

    thanks i filled up the specs.

    @hatinwin7
    thanks for the concern. actually I'm also hoping that someone here with a similar laptop has done it. i have a recovery disc. should there be any problem, i hope i can revert to the original factory settings.

    Well the good news is, there are Windows 7 drivers for your model, 32 and 64bit, so making the change should go smoothly - HP Pavilion dv5t-1000 CTO
