Windows Update Keeps Failing Nvidia Install 80070006

As you can see Windows Update keeps offering me an update for 7600GS and it always fails.

Error code 80070006. When I look that up I don't find much that helps.

Current installed driver is 181.71

Install either the latest from http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us or the beta from http://downloads.guru3d.com/. Then WU probably will not offer it to you any longer. A roundabout way of fixing things I suppose.

I already have the latest installed (Guru's are the same as nVidia's) that's why I find it strange that WU is offering it. Of course the "More Information" link ends up at a non-existent page so I have no idea what it is which is very annoying.

I'm getting the same error. Windows Update fails with code 80070006 when I try to install "nVidia - Display - NVIDIA Quadro NVS 110M".

I think there's a glitch in WU actually. It has offered me that update 3 times despite the fact that the drivers are totally up to date.

I finally had to hide it.

You could try removing the drivers and allowing WU to reinstall them for you, but I don't know what lies down that road...

Once the drivers are removed, you will be set with standard VGA adaptor & Windows should then offer to search WU for the latest drivers. I've had this issue with Intel drivers too & that's how i got WU off my back LOL

If it does fail (however unlikely) there's always safe mode & reinstall the d/loaded drivers.

There's an option in "systempropertiesprotection" in the "hardware" tab to do with driver installation. You may use this to decide what you would like MU to do. You can set it 3 different ways. You might look at this (if you already haven't) to see if one of these settings will help. You can choose to just update the drivers yourself. This may be the thing to do once you get your system stable.

Yes, that's the first thing I always change whenever installing Vista and above - to ask my permission first.
Sometimes it seems not to work as planned though.

Thanks one and all for the ideas.
