    No updates will install

SO, for months now, no windows updates will install.

it always fails with error code 80070034

"Windows update encountered an unknown error"

no matter what i try, nothing seems to work.

    Also,
I cant get sfc to pass 9%
and it wont run from repair mode.

    Any ideas?

I'm assuming you've turned off and or bypassed any firewall software? Although that wouldn't explain SFC's failure. Personally I would reinstall if it's possible. Otherwise someone else may have a different idea :)

    Hi.

I agree with the reinstall and a Clean Install at that, start from a fresh, then come straight here should you continue to have issues.

Try SFC command in safe mode, independly from results go to C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder and find CBS.log file, attache it to post

here it is. SFC failed at 9% again in safe mode. when i try to do it from the repair console, it says that there is a system repair pending and it needs to restart and finish the repair.

FYI, my comp is a little weird. I'm running a RAID 10 array. I believe thats where my instability stems from.

Looking up that WU error code, It doesn't exist so its not related with Windows Update itself but another component.

There is a standard error code with the same number however: You were not connected because a duplicate name exists on the network. If joining a domain, go to System in Control Panel to change the computer name and try again. If joining a workgroup, choose another workgroup name.

that error code is also related to the hosts file, your computer name containing an underscore, spaces or other symbols or your machine being behind a NAT device/firewall blocking specific packets.

    Peaches491,
Have you used the /SCANONCE switch with SFC? This scans all protected system files once at next boot.

This error code is not documented but it is not equivalent it never exist for WU.

So how it relevant to his issue with SFC command?I do not understand this.

    and from his CBS.log

Do you really believe that all these errors we can safely to ignore?

I do not think that any issues with network connections/worgroups/domains have something in common with trouble with SFC tool like here.In my opinion these packages are corrupted and he must to fix them.I'll later edit this post to attache these components+instructions...

I attached to post corrupted componets reported in your CBS.log

    download them and unpack anywhere

1.Navigate to C:\Windows\Servicing\Packages,takeownership of this folder and add your account to have full control
2.Copy my files to this folder -if you have already any file then replace it.
3.Remove your account from permissions to Packages folder
4.Restore ownership of Packages folder back to "NT Service\TrustedInstaller"

    Useful links:Take Ownership of file
    TrustedInstaller - Restore as Owner
    Folder Permissions

5.Empty C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder and again try sfc /scannow command, you can try /SCANONCEswitch too as @Bill2 suggest and one thing:

try also run Readiness Tool Download details: System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB947821) [January 2010]
I don't know you can run it but try it,this tool create report CheckSur.log,

next find in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder CheckSur.log and new CBS.log file ->both files attache to post
No updates will install Attached Files
