No luck with this issue.I tried with catalyst 9.2.It will go with the installation but i does not change the date on the driver or the driver itself.

    i'm still stuck with 8.561.00 dated 12/1/2008 with a 3.5 WEI on T5600 C2D @ 1.83 Ghz with 2 gig memory.

    Processor: 4.7
    Memory : 4.7
    Graphics : 3.5
    Gaming : 3.6
    HD : 4.9

Any ideas on how to improve (install) better Drivers...?

    Thanks in advance

You'll need to clean those off entirely to allow for any older or other drivers to go on fresh. With the ATI catalyst on the "C:\ATI\support\8.x or 9.x sub folder if present has it's own setup.exe file there you bring up to select the uninstall option as well as going into the device manager and right clicking to uninstall on the display adapter checking off the delete drivers box.

If anything remains then you would use a driver cleaner to insure all traces are gone. From there you should see the latest version that supports the X1xxx series.

The other thing to remember when looking at "any" other version you pick out is to read the release notes often in pdf format that shows what model series are supported for the version you look at. You want to insure at least Vista for 7 use as well being the Radeon or Mobility type correct for use there.

Dell sees their own Vista 32/64bit updates as well as for XP at Drivers & Downloads=

I went to the Dell page following your link, and the driver listed for X1400 is 8.36-070314a3 dated 5/21/2007.
This is an old driver compared to the one installed by default by Windows 7 RTM 6.1.7600.16385.win7_rtm.090713-125 version......

The driver that is updated through Windows Update doesn't work anyway. When the screen dims, it never comes back from dim. Hopefully they'll come out with new drivers soon

Unfortunately ATI even now with ATI.AMD model series you still see a fast turnover where the release notes on any update are what you need to pay close attention to since those show the model series supported. From the 9.3 catalyst and newer in most cases those are intended for the 2xxx, 3xxx, and 4xxx model lines there.

Believe me I know it can be a real pain in ... when trying to update an XP case and that card was an older All in Wonder 9800 AGP card. When a newer catalyst beyond what was found at guru3d wasn't available(5.14 there) the owner upgraded that to a Sapphire 3650 model.

The guru3d site carries old as well as the latest versions there where looking up an oldie back as far as the 9xxx AGP models is still seen. When the 5xxx series is out I can expect the present card here will no longer see any either. Hopefully by then I will have either upgraded the case or built a new one.

I just checked the Microsoft Update Catalog and the ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 is listed for both 32-bit and 64-bit. It shows version 8.561.0.0 dated 11/30/2008. I'm pretty sure that's the one I use quite successfully.

    Bye.

If that was for both flavors of Vista it should. You just won't find any labeled for 7 or 7 beta drivers.
