I had installed the original Windows 7 beta build 7000 on a Shuttle X100 XPC and when I ran Windows Update, it pulled down a nice pre-release version of a Windows 7 driver that worked very well. This XPC is about the size of a hard-back textbook and uses an ATI Radeon Mobility X1400 GPU chip. This is much like many mid-level notebooks from a few years ago. It's not great, but has enough power to play most any multimedia and supports full Aero.
Today I decided to install one of the newer betas of Windows 7, so I performed a fresh install and foolishly expected the nice video driver to show up in Windows Update.
IT"S GONE! After some web searching, I discovered I'm not the only fool who trusted Microsoft concerning this ATI driver. I was able to install a Vista driver from Levono in compatibility mode. It does work, but I'd prefer the real thing.
Bye.
