Activate Vista in VMWare?

Can I use the key on the OEM sticker of my laptop to activate Windows Vista HP on VMWare? I updated my laptop to Windows 7 HP, so that means the key should work right?

There's no harm in trying. At the very most, it'll tell you the key is invalid. Here's the thing; most OEM installations don't just use keys. There's a special marker, or string, embedded in the BIOS that they look for. VMWare/Virtual PC provide their own virtual BIOS, so it may or may not work. I think according to the EULA it should be allowed.

You can give it a try, but I doubt very much it will work. OEM's are tied to the machine and unfortunately the VM is a different machine. You just aren't legally allowed to move the OEM copy.
