OK Type services in start menu search, Click on that and find Windows Update towards the bottom, Right Click on it to Start the service.

You can go to properties and set it run at startup or whatever you want.

Did this just start or has it been like this for a while?

You could try this to see if fixes any corrupt files,
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker (If your using a theme patcher you will have to repatch after this, If it's the UxStyle core then you won't, I'm just saying because it looks like you are using a custom theme.)

Also here's a link to see if you can find something there, http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/w...indows-updates

What happened when you went here, http://www.update.microsoft.com/micr....aspx?ln=en-us

If Windows Update service not working you can forget about running Readiness Tool as well

First you have to fix WU service

    Try below:

1.Run cmd.exe with administrative previlliges (right click on cmd.exe as admin) and type:

    sfc /scannow

    2.Reinstall WU Agent http://download.windowsupdate.com/wi...gent30-x64.exe
3.Try reset WU components in aggressive mode How do I reset Windows Update components?
4.Import this fix wuauserv.zip to registry and restart computer

If nothing help find CBS.log in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder and attache to post,if file will be too big to attache then upload it on RapidShare: 1-CLICK Web hosting - Easy Filehosting

i just got up, went to my computer and i saw there were some issues. i clicked to little flag icon and noticed i couldn't update. i am using a custom theme, and i am using the UxStyle patcher. when i went here Microsoft Update all i saw was a picture on how to check for updates from the start menu.
