    Convert OEM key to retail

Is there ANY way I can convert my OEM 7 HP key to a retail key. Reason being is I plan on selling my laptop, replacing 7 with vista (key from sticker), and using the windows 7 on a computer im building. Is this possible in any way?

No, otherwise there would be no reason to buy a retail key. Just get another copy of Windows 7.

I am sure you can find your OEM key on your system with the help of a third party software ie. Belrac adviser or SIW.

Sorry, but the answer is not. Those keys are sold a lot cheaper than regular retail keys. The intent was so that mfg like Dell can buy them in great quatity at a cheap price. What you want to do is not possible. Sorry. If we can help in any other way just post.

There have been increasing reports of MS making exceptions on changing hardware completely with OEM key. Here is a thread to read: Post your OEM Activation Experiences

It might be worth a try, especially if you have a good story about installing it on the wrong machine, etc.

I can understand why you would want to migrate 7 with the Vista license in place, but you might get a better price selling it with Win7 if the buyer is smart.

    cclloyd,

If that HP machine has a vista COA sticker, then obviously it came with vista oem preinstalled. So how did it become OEM 7?
