Windows 7 build 7600 not genuine....

I'm aware that alot of folks are having this problem. My specific situation is this: I bought a demo model Toshiba laptop from Radio Shack that came with Windows 7 on it but the Microsoft sticker on the bottom of the computer, the one with the key....., well, it says Windows Vista and all the papers that came with the computer say it has windows vista!
So, what happened was that when it turned out that Vista sucked, they just stuck Windows 7 on this thing as a quick fix and started selling it like that?,,,
    Is that what happened?

Looks like it to me, but I'm all but computer illiterate but street wise enough to figure out that much, I think..

    So, what should I do?
I saw it suggested somewhere in some forum that I should take the computer back and either ask for a 100% refund or a fresh copy of Windows 7

    Anyone got any ideas?

    Was I scammed?
    Were alot of people scammed?

See what the OS is, by right-clicking on My Computer and selecting Properties. Could you please post a screenshot?

Hello Jimishelter, welcome to the Seven Forums.

In my opinion you have exactly those two options you mentioned. If you bought a computer from Radio Shack equipped with Windows 7, you have the right to expect that the operating system is valid. You should get a full refund, or a Windows 7 license.

Of course, not knowing the consumer rights in USA, the above mentioned is only my personal opinion, not necessary a fact.

You should return the laptop to RS. Get a Product key thats valid or a refund. I hope you kept your proof of purchase. Also if you paid with a credit card they (credit card company) may be of help when you tell them what they did.

Generally, Radio Shack is good to deal with and they stand behind their products. My guess is is Radio Shack screwed up and failed to give you everything that went with the computer - or failed to reinstall Vista before it was sold.

From what I've been reading, the final version of Windows 7 was released to the public October 22, 2009.....5 days after I purchased my Toshiba L 305 laptop from Radioshack at the Providence Place Mall in Providence, Rhode Island, USA...
The version of Windows 7 that is on my computer is apparently the "release candidate" version , which is time-bombed and is already beginning to "fail", i.e., shutting down and my wallpaper goes black. From what I've read, on June 1st, the whole OS will "time out" and I will be with out an operating system....
    Thanks alot , Radio Shack!
I'll be seeing you tommorow evening after work..
    You owe me an OS!
