Hardware update - Now "Windows not genuine" Can't activate

I Purchased Win 7 Ultimate some months ago as a download. It activated properly, and has been very stable. I replaced my processor three days ago without incident - no messages about activation. Now I am getting the black screen and "Windows is not genuine" message. I tried entering the product code - no joy. So I called the number and tried phone activation - three times - at the end, it said "you cannot activate Windows today". There used to be a number to call to explain about hardware updates - but I cannot find it anywhere on their site. I tried system restore, and it didn't complete.

Any help anyone could provied would be greatly appreciated. I am not interested in paying for my copy of Windows again.

Welcome

Very strange that when you called you were not transferred to a rep. Try one of these numbers
Microsoft Volume Licensing - Activation Centers

Did you call on the Holiday weekend, maybe you should try again during normal business hours.

Let me know what happens.

After nearly two hours, and several disconnects and transfers to dead lines, I got to the following number for the "Activation TEam (866-530-6364). Eventually, one of the people took the product code and told me this was an "MSDN" copy, and I would have to get help from the people who sold it to me.

I purchased it in October, by following a link on (I think) the Vista forum to G2play.net. I paid $180 for the upgrade copu (Ultimate 64 bit upgrade) [later reduced to $155 because the order got mixed up and they didn't send the links for a couple of days], and they sent me the link and product key. I have sent them an email with all the information and have asked for help or my money back.

I really thought they (and the WIndows version) were legit - I will see what happens. I note that Amazon is selling an upgrade copy of Win 7 Ultimate upgrade for $156 - problem is, even if I get my money back I don't know if an upgrade version will work over this version of Win 7.

I will keep you informed.

Thanks for trying to help,

Joe

Sorry about the bad news Joe. Many, many posts about similar problems. Its best to pay a little more and buy from rep dealers. If I can be of any further help just post.

They have asked for additional information, so we'll see if they help. I paid about the going rate, so it was not much of a discount - and I found the link on a reputable board - and they seemed to be a big operation, so I thought legit. I suppose cleanest way to resolve is to follow link and buy a product key from Microsoft. I do not want to have problems trying to run and upgrade installation when Vista is not still on the machine.

They offered me "reward points" - I consider this an admission that they sold me a bogus copy of Windows. Please pass the word along. When I get a chance, I will report them to Microsoft.

I purchased a new key from Microsoft, and all is working properly. A very painful lesson.

Poor phone activation support

My daughter moved from Texas to Michigan, she had to call to get Win 7 home premium upgrade activated on an upgraded PC.
She got connected to lady and was asked lots of questions as to why she needed to reactivate, where had she purchased XP & Win 7, how much they cost. She was told she'd need to go buy XP and install it so she could reinstall Win 7 and then reinstall all her programs.

Before she moved, I'd upgraded her computer mb, cpu, ram, video & reinstalled win 7 home premium upgrade on a new formatted disk. I Didn't activate right away as we'd had trouble with computer freezing. Got that fixed with different RAM

I finally got her fixed up by providing her with another Win 7 key that I own.
I'd tried the registy hack, slmgr w/o effect.

Win 7's activation can and always will be a pain in the ass
I'll just have to get the other license key reactivated in the future when I upgrade one of my XP PCs
