License transfer from laptop to PC

    Hi Friends!

I have been using an Acer laptop with Windows 7 64 bit Home Basic edition since 2012, but suddenly the hard drive died over a month ago and I had to install Windows 7 to a brand new 1TB Samsung SSD using a set of 4 DVDs known as Factory Default Discs created using a software called Acer eRecovery Management, which came installed with the laptop. The laptop started working fine again and accepted the new SSD without any issues with the original license.

But just 2 days ago my laptop died and when I visited the local Acer support/service centre and the technician there told me that the motherboard had died beyond repair.

My question is, whether I can use this valid/genuine Windows 7 operating system currently installed on the brand new 1TB Samsung SSD with a totally different motherboard of another brand laptop or regular (non-branded, personally assembled) desktop PC.

As far as I understand, Windows 7 laptop license is tied to the motherboard of that laptop only and it can never be used with the motherboard of another Acer brand laptop or another brand laptop or desktop PC, but I need your opinion.

    Thanks a lot.

totally different motherboard of another brand laptop
if the replacement is a windows 7 era laptop it probably has both a coa sticker and oem slp activation which could be used to activate.

    otherwise:

does the dead laptop have a coa sticker?

I assume it a acer oem version so not likely to activate unless its an acer. If you get a new laptop it can come with win10 or 11 and there may not be any drivers for 7

those discs are not anything to do with Acer.... they are home made

Erecovery will default back to the Acer recovery partition, NO discs required, which will not be an option UNLESS you have replaced the motherboard with another ACER W7 motherboard

I also think replacing it with another brand may affect performance.
