Windows 7: MS themselves do not have answer to update error

MS themselves do not have answer to update error

When running Windows 7 update. I get error code 800700C1. Does any one know how to fix this? The only method that works to fix this for me is the following.

Method1:
To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
Click Start, and then click Run.
Type cmd in the Open box, and then click OK.
At the command prompt, type net stop wuauserv, and then press ENTER.
Type rmdir /s %windir%\softwaredistribution\wuredir, and then press ENTER.
Type net start wuauserv, and then press ENTER.
Try to install updates again.



That was per MS instructions. The problem is. I don't want to keep going through that every time when updates roll around. It gets old.

The update is not installed successfully, you receive a message, and the computer restarts when you try to install an update in Windows Vista and Windows 7

More on this 800700c1 error problem. This can also be a malware or spyware problem. Reinstalling the Op system would be my first choice. In the amount of time it took me to look up this info I could have already reinstalled the Op system and most likely fixed the problem. That is just my way of doing things. Or you can play around with this problem for hours on end. The choice is yours.

All I can say is,, if that only works the one time? Then you have a different problem going on.
Something is breaking it. So, trying to fix that is not going to help. You need to figure out what is breaking it in the first place. Most likely some third party application you have installed.

Or, Malware .... something else...

I agree, that it might be better off reinstalling. And no, this is not a bug.
It's a system specific issue.

Man do I hate spending all the time researching problems like this then the Op doesn't even respond.

lol... if good criteria for determining how to fix a system error.. if it's going to take longer than 15 minutes just to figure out exactly what's wrong, reinstall the OS. Makes perfect sense to me

I just got around to viewing my post again. Thanks for all the help and suggestions. I really do appreciate it. I have tried many things. Nothing yet has worked. I done a sfc /scannow and it found corrupt files it could not fix. But did fix what it could. The problem is. I cannot understand how to read the log on what to fix. I am trying to avoid a complete reinstall. Media player does not work either now. It crashes at startup. I will most likely have to reload the OS.
