Great reason to not buy Windows 7 on ebay

So about 6 months back I bought a copy of Windows 7 ultimate on ebay for 89 dollars from a gentleman claiming he had 50 copys that were entirely authentic because his "company" decided they wanted to change all the computers to premium rather then ultimate so he wanted to sell them at the same price his "company' paid which broke out to be 89 dollars each since they bought so many at once I guess and as such they just wanted to recoup their expense ( I have never done a windows install before this so I didn't know if the story was true but he had sold many of them already and people left positive feedback so I bought one)... But today I turn on my computer as night comes around and the water mark stating not genuine was in the bottom right corner of my screen, after messing with everything for a while I couldn't get anything to work, tried to reapply the product key that came in the package he sent and it says windows has blocked that key so I was a victim of counterfeiting and the ebay seller no longer exist according to the website

That sucks man, but you aren't the first to be pulled in by scammers, and you won't be the last. Good luck in the search for a key.

You should always opt for either a sealed pack from a reputed computer shop or you should purchase from the Microsoft website. I also purchase a lot from ebay but would never buy a windows copy as it would most likely be illegal.

The only solution I suppose is to contact Microsoft as they provide you with genuine copy at a reduced price in case you have been a victim of counterfeited software. Contact Microsoft and they might be able to help.

i has a similar experience with acronis true image, i emailed the guy asking if it was a genuine copy, yes, office clear out was the reply, so i bought it

i got a jeweled cased cd-r with a folder named ATI warez... i also got a slip of paper with the serial on it (probabaly from a keygen)

he was still on ebay and i sent him an email about loads of crap about the fraud squad etc and claimed through ebay, got all my cash back.

not really bought much software from ebay after that

Thanks for sharing. I see many questions about those keys. This will help many avoid buying them. Added REP!

Yes, i will have to admit, I was a victim. It turned out with mine, the bloke sold me a MSDN key with a pirated disk, £49 GBP, (pirated that bad the genuine strip came off as it was stuck on top and not underneath like ligit disk). all seemed fine till i went to do a install one night and boom, the key was blocked.

In the end, i ended up going onto Amazon.co.uk. to buy a OEM version for £149, which, thankfully was fully legit as it was in the usual M$ OEM sealed case.

Never buy Windows 7 or popular (and expensive) software off Ebay as it will no doubtly be FAKE!!

I will buy software on eBay, sealed and unregistered only, if it shows up not in that condition and was listed as such it is not as listed so it goes right back. My 64 bit and 32 bit Windows 7 pro disks were DELL upgrade disks and work just fine.
