Windows7 build 7600 This copy of Windows in not genuine

    Hi folks,

I've been searching for days trying to figure out what happened to cause me to get this message. I had an RC version that I'd been playing with, then in December 2009 downloaded and installed (or thought I did) RTM 7600.16385 ISO and bought a key from a retailer on Ebay. Everything activated fine and I've been using it without incident until last Saturday. So........I'm wondering if I got taken like some of the others that have posted here.

Yesterday I tried doing a repair and reactivate but got a message that my key had been blocked. I'm trying to figure out what to do next.

Anyway, here's the report. If anyone has an idea, it would be appreciated!

When and from where did you get the message the key had been blocked ?

If you report to MS that you were genuinely duped - you may need to give details where you bought it from - they sometimes give you a new one.

You have a MSDN-Key wich was sold illegal... See here: Blocked Keys (Was EBAY Keys)
To check your PID press the win key and pause at the same time, or open system properties through the control panel, scroll down to activation section and look at the PID It will look something like this 12345-067-1234567-54321, the portion you are interested in is the three digit section, if it matches or is within one or two digits of the examples below you probably have an MSDN key.

065, 066, 067 for Ultimate, 220 area for Pro and the 230, 231 area for premium, there are probably others but they should be close to those posted

If you have a similar PID, or your key is blocked and you want confirmation post a new thread with a report from the MGADIAG tool, download and run the tool, click copy and paste it in a new post here and Darin Smith from MS can verify your key for you. NEVER post your key, the report will suffice.

    SIW2,

I returned from a trip last Saturday, went to check email and got the "this copy not genuine" watermark. I spent most of Sunday trying to figure out what was going on and tried to do a repair which prompted me to reactivate and that's when I got the key blocked message from MS.

If you purchased the key on ebay, the key more than likely is blocked... you will need to purchase a key directly from MS, or purchase the retail/OEM version from a valid participating MS vendor...

    Retailer

In your post you said you purchased it from a retailer not a person if you did i suggest you go back to the retailer and ask for a refund or report them to ebay

I have a similar problem, my build is 7600, 3 digit number: 231. I just got it a week ago and all of our computers got this error. My dad is a Technet Subscriber, and I don't know why I have this problem, my desktop this is happening on, Windows 7 Home Premium.

You should contact Technet support thru phone or chat. They'll have you up and running..

Yes we got it sorted out. My dads a technet subsciber, and tried generating all keys for 10 max times, and making notes of them "for later use".

    Hi there

I might be dumb but why would ANYONE buy a "key" from e-bay. You KNOW that the source is probably dubious.

There are many LEGIT ways to get CHEAP versions of an OS -- a good one is if someone is genuinely junking a Computer and it has a GENUINE NON OEM installed OS you can transfer that OS to the new computer. You will have to activate by phone but MS will activate the OS --perfectly above board and legit. Just say you've junked the old computer and you want to install the full OS on the new one.

Honestly --you probably would have better luck with a Torrent rather than ebay --at least it *might* work for a while and it wouldn't cost you although of course this is 100% illegal.

Incidently PLEASE any technet suscribers out there --we have a reasonably good deal with MS at the moment in being able to obtain the latest OS's, servers and application programs for a reasonable subscription.

Don't jepardize this by selling keys on ebay or elsewhere. You'll hoze it up for everybody.

    Cheers
