It wont accept my activation key

I bought a Asus g71gx in September and it came with Vista Home Premium. I got the upgrade for windows 7 hp but it does not have the users and groups option. So I put a copy of Professional and entered the key from the box. But when I tried to activate it, it said 'this key cannot be used'. Can anyone help me fix this?

You have to use an upgrade version of Windows to use an upgrade key ... you cant use it for a full version...

A Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade key will not work with Windows 7 Professional.

I don't understand this part: "I got the upgrade for windows 7 hp but it does not have the users and groups option".

You have first updated from Vista Home Premium with an upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium...was it "Windows Anytime Upgrade" or a CD Upgrade from HP seller?

Then you wished to have Windows 7 Professional and reinstalled from a retail CD boxed version?

Go to Start>type Anytime Upgrade. it will come up at the top. Select it then choose Upgrade, it will ask for your key. Follow it as it states, do NOT, put dashes in as it does it itself. If your keys are CAPs use caps, pay close attention to 8 and B, 0 (zero) an O (Oh) and D these can be a PITA sometimes, good luck.

I have 2 licensed copies of professional. I was having problems with home premium and reimaged it to professional. I entered the license key and it said it couldn't activate it. Then, it gave me an option list if I want to buy a new license key, which I didn't accept. It has about 15 days left to activate
