Win 7 Ultimate - System scheduled backup fails.

I can run a backup (selected files + image), but only if I initiate it myself. When I set it to run on a schedule, it fails with a message saying "Your backup did not complete successfully"; and further checking shows that the error was "access denied". I am backing up my laptop to an external E-SATA 1TB hard drive. Plenty of space on the target, and like I say, if I initiate it manually ("Run Backup Now") it runs fine.

    Any ideas?

I've had similar problems with network backups when I forgot to specify the password in Task Scheduler.

Make another task, identical to the first one - but ensure that you've entered the password for the profile that you're logged onto.

I'm not using the task scheduler to schedule the Backup. I'm just using the Windows Backup Wizard to set it up. It doesn't ask for my password anywhere.

I did look in Task Scheduler (to see if the wizard's using that) and found Windows Backup under Windows in the tree structure. I looked through all the tabs, but I didn't see anywhere that I could specify or change the user/password that runs it. So, I deleted everything there (3 tasks), and went back to the wizard and sure enough, the task was no longer scheduled. So, I set up the scheduled task again. I've set it to run at 8am on Tuesdays (Central Time); so we'll see what happens today... I'll let you know.

    Thanks.
