One good reason why you are not seeing a lot of restore points, Windows 7 only creates one automatically if one hasn't been created manually or by the install of something that triggers one every 7 days,

    Restore Points (Windows)

System Restore can be configured to create restore points at regular intervals. Users can also manually create and name a restore point at any time from within the System Restore user interface. These restore points are saved and compressed, and these choices are available to the user through the System Restore user interface. System Restore in Windows 7 creates a scheduled restore point only if no other restore points have been created in the last 7 days. System Restore in Windows Vista creates a checkpoint every 24 hours if no other restore points were created that day. System Restore in Windows XP creates a checkpoint every 24 hours of absolute time.

BFK i followed the tut for instant restore point at startup without details and when i extracted the zip file /winrar there was only one file in the folder and the other was a shortcut on the desk top,
anyhow i cut and pasted into prog files and startup file and restarted but there is no restore point for the startup i just did.
could i have done something wrong

    Hello mate.

I just set-up the one with no description and it worked flawlessly, which one are you using?

I / you should get UAC prompts as soon as windows starts/you log-on, did you?

this one first --> then this one.

    Howdy, don't copy/paste the files/shortcut use cut/paste, that's how I always do it.

    Here's how ...

Extract the Zip file to the desktop ...

Cut "Instant Restore Point" file and paste to "Program Files" not the x86 one.

    system restore points?-cut1.jpgsystem restore points?-paste1.jpg

Then open the "Startup File in the start menu ....

    system restore points?-startup.jpg

Then cut/paste the "Instant Restore Point" shortcut into the Startup folder.

    system restore points?-cut2.jpgsystem restore points?-paste2.jpg

Then close everything and restart and it will work.

Ted feel free to give me whatever size Darwin award you choose .
although i followed the tut to the letter the one mistake i was making was cutting the FILE inside the folder and not the actual FOLDER, Doh
    thanks for your patience.and screens
