Help with clearing up my recovery drive for backup?

My 10gb recovery drive says it is 85% full when there are no files hidden, or otherwise stored on that drive from what I can find. Disk cleanup came up with only 528mb of recycle bin stuff. Also I scanned the drive for errors and came through fine. Where is the whole 8.5gb stored?

I could restore the drive to an earlier version but am scared of deleting important files as there are a few user accounts on this computer, thanks

    Use this
    WinDirStat - Windows Directory Statistics

Hard Disk Space - Free Up and Recover

After you know what is on it with WidDirStat, we can clean it up.

system.sav is part of the recovery program, dont delete
Factory.wim is probably the recovery to factory specs. dont delete

If it were my computer, I would not delete.

Yup. Those're the files of the recovery console/environment that you see when you boot up your computer. You shouldn't delete them.. However, You can delete them if you've the installation media or recovery disc of your own and are confident enough that you wont be needing them likely in future..

Good choice. One day you may have a problem and you will be glad that the back up is there.

If you do the computer may not be able to find them when needed.

Make your HP REcovery DIsks at All Programs>HP Recovery to see if the image is even still intact.

If so, then the Recov partition serves the purpose of being able to run Recovery from the HP REcovery utility in Windows, or boot HP Factory Recov at startup (normally by tapping the F11 key) if Windows becomes irreparable.

If it won't make the Recov Disks, then you can try running it from boot. If this fails I would recover the space into Win7 or another partition.
