I called microsoft and explained to them that I purchased windows 7 online and opted out of getting a backup dvd just in case. The answer I got was that I will have to order again and they can't send backup DVDs for operating systems. Is there any other possible way than to buy windows 7 again?
when you purchased win 7 online, how did you get it?
downloaded an iso?
burn that iso to disc if you still have it. and write the serial key on it.
Take it back to the store that installed the software for you so cheaply and ask them for the copy of Windows 7 so in the event that you have to reinstall in the future, you will be able to do so. I assume this is the machine that came from the guy who installed Windows 7 for $50 for you????
If you have the Product Key you can reinstall with any retail installer: Windows 7 Universal Installation Disc - Create
If you've lost the Product Key you can audit off the HD using Belarc Advisor if it's still installed.
Why would you buy an OS which is yours for life, can migrate to any other machine of your choice and never expires, and not want a hard copy DVD for reinstallations or even repairs? Why would this and the Product Key not be guarded as you would any other valuable?
Because it was cheap, perhaps the Student Deal?
