How to backup laptop to desktop external drive via homegroup

    Hello,

I have a laptop and a desktop, both running Windows 7 Pro. 64 bit. They are connected to a homegroup via a router.

Is it possible to setup automatic backup on the laptop so that it can perform its backup to an external drive on the desktop?

If so, how to you do it?

I would like the desktop's external drive appear on the list of drives to perform the backup too.

    Thanks

Depends on the app you plan to use. I personally would use Acronis as it is bulletproof, and easy to use.

With Acronis you create a schedule of what you want backed up and then where you want the destination.

    Its that easy

    Ken,

Thanks for you suggestion, but for the monent I an going to stay with the backup that came with the system.

I would like to thank Ken and anyone who took the time to read my post. I tried several things but nothing works. It was not until after I posted my question that I tried one one thing, which worked.

I was always able to see the driive from the laptop, but could not recover to it. Once I realized that it was a "network" drive, I was able to select it. it now works.

That being said, I will now look into Acronis.

    Thanks
