chkdsk dleted thudnerbird and firefox profiles

When i started up my Windows 7 machine today it asked me to do a check disk on it, I decided to allow it as nothing I knew of could be corrupt. However afterwards I was distressed to find that my thunderbird and firefox profiles were deleted. I checked the profile in the directory and found that the files were listed as modifed at a time previous to the check disk.

I have tried running a system restore, however it never gets past "System restore is initializing".

Is there any way I can get my profiles back? especially the thunderbird one (I need those emails)

If you do not have a Backup ,, and the files were indeed corrupted,,, No. You can not get them back.

Invest in an External HDD and learn how to do regular Backups of your data.

2 groups of people exist, those who have lost data, and those who will lose data.

    However,,,,

You can try using Recuva and see if the files are there to retrieve.

Beyond that,, if you are getting this error

You have other issues. Possible Hardware issues, or something.
Chkdsk will not initiate for no reason. I have never seen that happen.

You should test your HDD and Memory

If you are more technically inclined and can deal with a DOS style window and not very user friendly,, try

    TestDisk

It is a very good tool and works great in many impossible situations, but......

If you still have prior shadows (restore points), Shadow Explorer can be used to retrieve them.
