Except I untick the include an image box in the backup setup and use the "Create a System Image" selection on the main Backup & restore screen. Images are very important and this gives you greater flexibility.
    2. Windows should detect other backup locations when present. eg. a plugged in external HDD. "Change Settings" allows you to change backup locations later on.
    3. Depends what you want to do. There a number of free programs such ImgBurn I and others find very good.

I'm not a fan of the backup program included in Windows 7. I prefer Acronis True Image Home or Macrium Reflect Free.
