Windows 7 not creating enough restore points

I had to do a system restore recently. I was limited to restoring to 3 days earlier, when all I wanted to do was restore to the day before, but unfortunately no restore points had been created. System Restore is turned on obviously, and I have allowed about 25 gigs of space for restore data, and yet I only had a total of 3 restore points and one of them I had created manually. My computer is turned on each morning and properly shutdown each evening.

The question then is... how do I get Windows 7 to create MORE restore points AUTOMATICALLY? My preference would be one every 24 hours (like an old XP computer did), such as when the computer is first booted up or shortly thereafter. I understand W7 creating restore points when doing updates or installs etc., but it seems to me it should be creating one each day as well. I'd hate to think that if I went a few weeks between critical updates that NO restore points would be created.

You can create a visual basic script to do it then schedule it to run daily with the task scheduler.

For example (google is your friend):

    Hello Paralyzer,

In addition, you could use the create a "instant restore point" shortcut in the tutorial below to use in Task Scheduler to create a task to run the shortcut at startup/log on or when you like automatically.

    Hope this helps,

Done and done! Thanks gentlemen. I went with the Instant Restore Point that I put in Program Files, and then added the Basic Task in Task Scheduler, as per tutorials. Have it set to run in a couple of hours from now, at which time I'll make sure that it works as it should.

You can also Configure more HD space so that more restore points will hang around longer. Go to Control Panel>System>System Protection.

Went perfectly. Instant Restore Point was created, and will now have a daily restore point made automatically just in case! Thanks again. :)
