Win7 Backup & Restore Issue

Hi All,

Urgent help needed here. I have a HP notebook loaded with Win7 Home Premium 64 bit on a 640GB HDD. I need to create 3 partitions: C Drive(200GB NTFS For Windows), D Drive(438GB NTFS For Data) and E Drive(HP_Tools 2 GB Fat32 partition).

By default, the HP notebook comes with a recovery partition. I removed the recovery management using Disk management and resized the 640GB HDD accordingly using extend and shrink under Disk management as well. Installed some apps, windows update to Win7 SP1. Everything works fine until I create a system image using Win7 backup and restore in control panel. The backup(file is stored in D drive) can be created successfully but when I attempt to restore the system image using "Repair Computer" upon pressing F8 at bootup, the following message appears.

Status: 0xc0000225
Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible

I could trigger "Repair Computer" via F8 before creating the system image backup and after I created the system image backup I hit 0xc0000225. What is happening?

When I attempt to do bootrec as per below, 0xc0000225 is fixed but at the F8 menu, "repair computer" option goes missing?

The requirement here is to do hardisk based recovery via Win7 Backup and Restore. I can still access the backup file stored in D drive if I attempt to access it via a Win7 DVD.

I have been told that since I removed the HP recovery partition via disk management, there is still some residue left over so when I do Backup and Restore via Win7 control panel, Win RE points to the HP recovery partition that is missing which cause 0xc0000225. Some even say that I need to use reagentc.exe to point the recovery path back to Win7's Backup and Restore so that when I press F8 to do "Repair Computer" it will work and I can access the backup file stored in D drive.

I have no idea how to change the path that Win RE is currently linked to or use reagentc.exe. Can anyone please help me? Thanks a lot!

WinRE is placed on F8 Advanced Boot Tools menu by the System Reserved partition which in a retail install will be issued as a 100mb boot partition on a clean drive, but with factory OEM is often merged with a Tools or Recovery Partition marked System Active.

Did you recover the System boot files into Win7 from Recovery along with the disk space?

If you post back a screenshot of your maximized full Disk Management drive map with listings, using Snipping Tool in Start Menu, we can look it over for you.

Are you using any of the HP utilities which have better versions built into Win7? If not, you might consider finding a Win7 installer to re-install windows 7 to a wiped HD which is a much better install without the HP bloatware and useless utilities.
