how to do a system restore to a selected partition?

    Hi,

Current situation: 1 HDD with 2 partitions(C and D drive)

Result: 1 HDD with 2 Partitions. Partition 1 empty; Partition 2 containing 2 sub partitions(original/back up C and D drive).

Problem faced: I formatted my HDD to 2 partitions successfully, however when I did a system restore from my back-up(in external hard disk), my HDD was reformated to its original partition(current situation) just like before. Hence losing the empty partition.

I don't want to do a clean install as my laptop comes with some preinstalled software which i don't want to lose.

    thanks in advance!

Please post a screen snapshot of Disk Management.

You say "system restore". Do you mean restoration of an image? The use of System Restore is something else entirely and should not affect partitions.

You did this? System Image Recovery

Post back the screenshot and we'll help you repartition as desired using free Partition Wizard bootable CD.
