    Recovery Harddisk for windows

    Hi All,

I want to create recovery media (DVD or HDD) for my Windows 7 running on my VAIO laptop. I noticed that my HDD is already having 13.51 GB partition which is labelled as "Recovery Partition" (not visible in My Computer but visible in Computer management tool in control panel).

Can you please suggest me how to use this Recovery partition as a recovery media for my windows? I don't want to create DVDs as recovery media.

    Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

In your first paragraph you say you want to create recovery DVD media, but in your second paragraph you say to don't want to create recovery DVD media so you'll forgive me for being a tad confused.

That said, check your Sony desktop menu and your Sony manual for instructions on how to recover your system.

When the VAIO logo appears on the computer screen during atartup, tap the F10 key and the VAIO Recovery Wizard appears.

Or you can look in your start menu for VAIO Care. Open the app and you should see Recovery Options. This will guide you through making recovery discs or using the recovery partition to restore your VAIO to factory specs. You wouldn't need to create anything on the HDD because Sony did it for you with the recovery partition.

That's my problem. While opening the "VAIO create recovery" application, it is showing only options for DVD and pen-drive only. Since my 13 GB is already there for recovery purposes, how can I put windows image (and other recovery things) into that 13 GB drive so that it can be used to restore system at a later point of time. Please let me know if I am not clear on this.

    Thanks!

You cannot put a system image into your recovery partition or anything else for that matter as it is used purely for recovering your computer to it's factory state.

If you want to backup your computer using a Windows system image you need to buy an external hard drive and use that. Never backup to your existing hard drive, because if it fails you'll lose everything.

So, to repeat, DO NOT put anything else into your recovery partition and get yourself an external hard drive for backup purposes.
