Just to make sure we are still on the same page.
Does any part of Microsoft Office work? You mentioned that Outlook Express doesn't work.

i had this very problem the other day ,the user profile service service failed and would not load profile.
here is a link to my thread about it ,it was fixed very quickly and easily and no further problems.
The user profile service service failed the logon!
Boohbah , I was not aware of that tutorial. Excellent.. Having read it, I see I have good instincts as that's precisely what I tired, ie attempt a registry fix first, then if unsuccessful, delete the account and recreate one.

I am creating a new new one now.

I am hope that will fix all my issues, and will advise. My underscore-exe issue went away so that's a good sign.

    SUGGESTION -

    A) the two tutorials on changing the default and current location of /user files, should
reference the tutorial on user profile errors
    B) there may be one or two registry steps missing from the first two profiles re ProfileImagePath and environment variables..

The Remember me issue is now fixed

As for the outllook issue, also fixed, but I had to reinstall office again... and reset about 100 personal settings.

Ran into still other permission errors (attached) but found the known fixes for them ( in this case here : You receive an error message when you click a hyperlink in Outlook
As an aside. I must have installed and re-installed more apps in the last 10 days that I have in my entire lifetime.. and I have been using PCs since 1983.

I have built and rebuilt computers and thier contents a thousand times. I know what am doing and know when to ask for help when I anticiapte or get into trouble. But Windows 7 has done me in, I must have spent over 60 hours trying to get my Vista machine converted properly but it required multple clean installs and relaods.

And now the performance is sluggish compared to a day or two ago, so its STILL not right.

I am truly mentally exhausted. It should not have to be this way. My brother who knowd nothing about a computer has been enjoying his imac from the day he bought it, there is something to be said for that !
Thanks again for all the help. I am sure I will be back for more when I run into other snags waiting for me but clearly I need some down time. Computer is going for a shutdwon.. and the guitar amp is headed for a power up:)

    Sorry for the rant...
