Will appreciate to tell me what I am doing wrong

I do the following which for me is the fastest way of getting up and running after a full HDD failure. It cost me $55, the price of a Seagate 1TB Barracuda.

Made a Windows image of my system with all key software installed and stable.
Reimaged to the brand new HDD (no prep work). It booted immediately and tested fine.
I keep one for each of my PCs as a cold standby. ie. unplugged.

In case of HDD failure I'm up and running in the time it takes to connect power & sata connectors.
Reimage when time permits to the most recent image ~ 20 min.

If you don't like Windows Imaging you could use free Macrium Reflect but I actually think it takes a little more effort. As far as cloning is concerned - why bother.
    -------------------------------------
    Mjf, need your help please.
    1) “Made a Windows image of my system…” where you do it? In internal hard disk #1 or #2? In external disk?
    2) “Reimaged to the brand new DDD…” Understand it is extension hard drive. Sorry of this dull question, do you reimaged from “Windows Image” to your external disk?
    3) You said one each for your Pc. My brain is in track, than when my original inside PC hard disk failed, I have to start my computer using 3 disk not only one.
Will appreciate information about my confusion.
    Best regards

    1) store your image on an external HDD (just a standard USB HDD)
2)-a) remove your current main boot/OS drive. Take the new HDD out of it's bag or a spare working HDD and connect it in place of the existing HDD (power, sata connectors). The new HDD must be the same size or larger than the original. Connect only the new HDD and temporarily disconnect any other SATA internal HDDs.
-b) Connect the external HDD with image. Boot from a System Repair Disk and select the reimage options. Your image should be located. The format the new HDD option should be force selected (ticked and grayed out). If not select it.
    Accept the restore.
-c) Restore should successfully complete and the system should say "automatically booting in 60 seconds".
    3) Now you have a completely working copy of your old HDD. Remove it and store it or leave it unconnected in a spare bay. Replace your "old" HDD.
If your "old" HDD dies, simply replace it with the spare you made. You need nothing else connected. It is effectively a "clone" of the old HDD.

Lots of words but very straightforward.
If by some chance it doesn't work. Replace your "old" HDD and you are simply back to where you started. Report problem back to the forum for help.

You asked 3 questions, I gave you 3 answers. Some elaboration because you seemed confused.
As to your "summary" - I don't know what it means.

    Your answers are perfect.
I never was doing backup in method what you describe; so there is my word “consum” what mean to understand what I have to do.
My “summary” is conclusion, that I do not need three DVD only one HDD.
Once again, thanks for your time to educate me.

Ok I see. I tried to make it clear but thought I might not have explained it clearly enough.

Mjf, what I like, is to ask to correct my ideas:
    PC
There is 3 PC in home
Would buy: 3 pieces of Western Digital WD1002FAEX 1TB Caviar Black Hard Drive - 1TB, 7200RPM, 64MB, SATA 6Gbs, each $80.00 TigerDirect, Canada.
Would buy: 3 pieces of Ultra U12-40901 Leather Hard Drive Enclosure - 3.5", SATA to USB 3.0, 3Gbps, each $30.00 TigerDirect, Canada.
I like idea to have two SATA HDD in one double Enclosure, but it costly.
    Laptop
    3 laptops in home.
In laptops there is no room for backup partition. I understand that I have to image my C: drive to external USB HDD and protect in safe place. When my laptop dies will start boot from external HDD. Is it correct?

    Please accept best regards

Goes with your suggestion and procedure.
Have two new Hard drive WD 500 GB (same volume as in my computer)
Using Acronis True Image WD Edition
Using HD Docking station, with e-Sata connection, make Image of C: using Acronis for HD First
Take out my original hard drive from computer, C:: and others hard drives
Connect new Hard Drive Second with computer
Now I have: HD First with Image inside Docking Station and HD Second inside computer connection
Using Acronic True Image Bootable media CD, boot using Acronis
Make image to HD Second from HD First
    Disconnected HD First
Start computer with HD Second as C:
Does not work: "Bootmgr is missing"
Did procedure 3 times. No succes.
Will appreciate to tell me what I am doing wrong
    Best regards

    That's a pity.
I don't use Acronis and I don't know what you imaged and what you didn't image. I'll attempt to guide you through the exercise.
Firstly, it's probably easier to try the same exercise but use Windows Imaging.
    (1) From the Backup & Restore screen on the left select "Create a system image". Make this to the appropriate external HDD.
    (2) Make a System Repair DVD/CD. Boot from it and attempt the image restore to the new HDD as the only drive in the PC. Because you have written to the new HDD. I suggest running a format (quick) on the new HDD first.

If that doesn't work I'll ask for more info and move from there.

Thanks so much. Probably Acronis was not the best system to start understanding how to work with imaging.
Will do what you said and will report results.
