About copying XP folders to 7

We have a new Windows 7 computer. I have backed up files off a old XP computer and will copy the backed up files off an external disk.

Will leaving the old thumbs.db and various .ini files in the folders I copy have an conflict on the new Windows computer?

I don't think I ever had a problem before, but as it will be the wife's new computer I surely can't have any problems or I will never hear the end of it!

You might come into some Overwrite conflicts but you can Not copy those when you copy the files over however if you do the Folder icon will have changed to one that looks like XP and maybe the folder view (Desktop.ini)

If that happens then you might want to try the following - Folder Template - Default

Thanks for the quick reply Josh!

Looks like I was worrying about nothing. I did a test and there are no problems, never had a problem moving folders to W7 before. Just trying to make sure nothing goes wrong!

The file system of Windows 7 will not cause any conflict when you copy to the new Windows machine. Alternatively if you want you can disable the thumbs.db which stores the thumbnail images of the folders that it resides in.

I think I must have been having a senior moment. I've copied lots of files from XP to my older Windows 7 computer. Having "hide hidden files and folders" on my old Windows 7 and "show hidden files and folders" on the XP machine made me start thinking unnecessarily!
