    Acronis® True Image Home 2009

Can this program backup the C drive for windows 7 (64 bit)? I called them and they said when Windows 7 comes out they will have the update for the backup. Someone here said that they are using this program to backup Windows 7 now. Does anyone know about this?

Any particular reason that you want to use the Acronis product for making a backup image of your C drive, when the "system image" function built into Windows backup on Win7 is available with the OS??? I've used it many times already and it works great.

If you aren't familiar with it, check it out. Just go into backup tool and the ability to make a "system image" will be listed. It can make it to DVD or a USB hard drive. Then to restore, you just boot with Win7 disc, say "repair", point it at your system image and it puts it all right back.

I actually use three. win 7 backup, acronis, and ghost. golden asked abt acronis and I just verified that it worked. Im sure if he asked abt Acronis he had a reason for not wanting to use win 7 built in backup. I could be wrong.

I think lots of people don't realize that the system image utility is now free in all versions of Windows 7. With Vista, you had to be using Ultimate, Professional or Enterprise to run that function. I too was out looking for an option as well before I realized what was provided free of charge would do exactly what I needed.

That's why I asked him and suggested trying the other..if it's an option.

I've read that many have used Acronis successfully ..
But it refuses to recover in my computer .. With my disc configuration .. (Long Story)

I'm going to wait on the final Version of W7 .. And the Acronis update.

Cloning works OK .. but recovering from a backup Image is a NoGo.

What you can do is install acronis recovery cd only (you can chose during install) -> after install make an acronis recovery cd.

Now do you backups and restore from booting the cd.
The boot version is actually a special linux distro and it doesn't care if your OS is 64 or 32 bits.

And during boot no win files are locked so best chance of good backup/restore.

    Good luck.

Since MS now provides the backup function for free, Acronis will sue them in the EU and they will be forced to offer a variety of 3rd party backup tools?

    For those who don't know

I posted a post called Backup a day or two ago explaining the problems with the backup within Windows 7. I do however have "Acronis True Image 11" and it won't hurt to try it but will buy the 2009 in october if it doesn't work. Acronis is a great backup and I trust it a lot more than Windows built in backup. Windows 7 has a great speech program which I won't buy a 3rd party if I want to dictate to my computer.

I just posted again in that other thread. I'm going to test this in a bit and see what happens. I'm pretty darn sure that I was able to backup my Hidden Recovery partition and the C drive onto the D drive...which was just a partition on the single hard drive installed onto my machine. I got a warning saying "hey buddy, this isn't the best way to do this", but I'm pretty sure it worked.

Edit: Well I just tried what I think we are discussing and it worked fine for me. I posted my steps and some screenshots in your other thread here: https://www.sevenforums.com/202052-post8.html
