    backup win7 and keep all programs


    Hi Forum

    Im new here :)

    Well i have a pc where win 7 ultimate x64 and windows vista is installed on the same partition i want to get rid of the vista partion but i still want to keep all the data from the win 7 instalation any help would be appriciated.

    There is something I do not understand. It is impossible to have 2 operating systems in the same partition (unless you have some virtual mode). Do you really mean "partition" or are we talking about the same disk drive.

    It would be helpful if you posted a full picture of your disk management and explain with that what you want to delete and what you want to keep.

    Is it only data on the Windows 7 partition you wish to retain?
    You may be booting through the Vista partition and the disk management screenshot WHS asked for will answer this.

    If you already had Vista on your PC and later, installed Win7 to the same PC, it's most likely that Win7 added its boot information to the Vista OS partition. If you remove that, you will no longer be able to boot.

    You can fix that by downloading and installing EasyBCD from Neosmart Technologies and using the menu option to move the boot loader files into your Win7 partition. Then, when you remove Vista, you will still be able to boot.
