You need to be more specific. What did you back up? Is it an image backup? What software did you use to create the backup?
Thanks. I don't really know what is backed up. In Vista, using backup/restore you are prompted to put a dvd in then it automatically backs up. I presumed that all files were included. I don't know what an "Image backup is" .After I had done a complete recovery, I restored the files to Vista, I remember all program files were sucessessfully returned. All I wish to know is when Windows 7 is installed, will the same dvd restore the backed up files on to Windows 7.
wjt, welcome.
You would be better off using the File and Transfer Manager to transfer all your files and settings over to the new install.
However, you can set Windows Backup to backup all your files and settings, then restore them from a DVD.
You could also use my Windows.Old restore method, Windows.old folder - Restore into a new installation. This allows you to just install over your old install, then restores files and settings.
InformationI have not tested that method from Vista to Seven, but I imagine it would work with no problems.

If what you want to do is restore files from your Vista environment to the Win 7 environment, then as the Lord of Bobs suggests, the Windows Easy Transfer process is your best bet. The system backup functions is more meant to restore the Vista environment in case of mishap rather than transfering to another new OS.
Thank you both. Unfortunately there is no file and transfer manager on my Vista pc, nor is Windows Backup supported . Only back up and restore are available.

Nope the win 7 is different than the vista. its done the same way so you can do backups in win 7 the same way but you cant restore your vista stuff to win 7. there are a lot of good tutorials here that can help you learn abt backup and restoree. they are in the tutorial section
Good luck
