recover start windows normally mode

i had a virus and contacted a microsoft tech. he did a remote control of my system and ran a hi tech. spyware scanner and it found 5 infections. he cleaned them. all this was done in safe mode with networking. after he rebooted my computer it would only reboot in safe mode. he said a start up file must have been connected with one of the infections. he said i would need a restore disc to recover the file. i contacted dell and the are sending me a disc. my question is what are the steps i need to follow once i insert the disc. click by click. thanks william lee

It depends what "restore" disk is being referred to. If Dell are sending you factory restore disks then your whole system will be restored to the original condition the PC was in when you bought it. In this case you will lose your data and installed programs.

Try to find out what Windows file was deleted.

i have no clue which file. i thought i could back up all my files and folders on a 32 gig flash drive before i run the recovery discs.

Certainly backup your data first prior to a factory restore/recovery. Deactivating licensed software so it can be reinstalled will be a problem if you can't boot into Windows. You may need to contact the software vendors.
All the flash drives I have used have slow write speeds so I would be using an external HDD if you have one. Maybe you have a fast flash drive.

Then you should be able to deactivate any paid software you may have before a factory restore.
Once you do this you have nothing to lose trying the "Windows Repair" option by booting from a "System Repair" CD. You make one of these CDs/DVDs by going into Backup and Restore Screen and selecting the option on the left. Try running the repair up to 3 times.
Not knowing what Windows file was deleted this repair option may not work and prevent you even going into safe mode. In that case it's factory restore time.

The other thing you can try is a Repair install if you have access to a Windows 7 retail installation DVD (not the OEM factory restore DVDs).

i bought an external drive to backup my files, but when i plug it in usb port the computer recognizes it in system tray but it doesn't show up in explore.of course i am doing this in safe mode with networking, the only way i can boot up. what now?
