Macrium Restore Question With New HD

You can see from my Disk Management that my C: and D: partitions are backed up to my F: and G:. My C: is getting full and I thought I would get a bigger HD and restore C: and D: to it. == I am not sure of the exact steps to follow to do this. I can install the new HD and have three in there at one time. I could then format and partition. At this point I am stuck as to how to get the drive letters of C: and D: on the new HD. Any help is appreciated. Thanks,

What about this procedure:

Get the new HD and install it.

Disconnect the current OS drive C

Boot from your Macrium recovery disk.

Navigate to your image of C file on your backup drive. Restore it to the new drive.

Reboot to the new HD which now has the restored image of C.

I would think that in that scenario, the new drive would automatically have the C drive letter.

I use Macrium, but have never restored an image with it. However, that is the procedure I would attempt if I had to restore.

Thanks for the reply. That is what I had thought would be the procedure, I just did not know if it would give me the correct letters for the drives.

By default Macrium will restore with partitions the same size as the backup. If you are using the v5 PE disk you can modify the partition sizes during the restore if you wish.

I have a 160 GB disk now. If I get a 500 GB disk, it will make the same partition sizes as now and leave the remainder unallocated?

If you use the Linux rescue CD that is what will happen. If you use the PE rescue disk then you have the opportunity to alter the restored partition sizes within limits.
