Replacing 40GB HDD with 64GB SSD - Image restore question

    Win 7 is much smarter than some people think.

    You can simply use Win 7 Backup and Restore to create a system image of your HDD.
    Then boot from a Win 7 System Repair Disc and choose the option to restore.

    I've done this several times, especially when I was testing Win 7's backup and Restore for all kinds of things and everything works like a charm. The only thing I add is that the SSD was Trim capable.

    If you were trying to move a Linux OS then you would have to play all of the alignment games. Win 7 is going to take care of that for you. MS made some changes from the XP, Vista days as to alignment of partitions/volumes such that you will have no problems.

    Sorry about that. No hijack intended. I actually thought my questions were on topic.... replacing a smaller drive with a larger drive, and trying to avoid a reinstall by using a restore process. I'll go back to just reading until I've learned enough to ask pertinent questions.
