How to Backup Windows 7 Default (Customized) File Associations

Does anyone know how you can backup your personal customizations to the Default File Locations (e.g., my *.txt isn't assocated with Notepad, but Notepad2). Is it in the registry somewhere?

    Hello Furashgf,

You can export the FileExts key at the registry location below to backup all of your custom "Open with" default associations for file extenstion. If you just wanted to backup a specific file extension, then you could just export that specific file extension instead under the FileExts key. :)

To restore the backup, you would just merge the exported REG file.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn
