Recovery Partition clone

If I clone the Recovery Partition from hdd #1 to hdd #2
will hdd #2 reinstall 7 in the computer I pulled hdd #1 out of?

7 has been erased from hdd #1
hdd #1 has a damaged data connector and only works when I hold the cable in place. I'll be using adifferent computer and ext hdd enclosure.

If you think it will work, what's a good free program to clone it?

We always assume you have made your Recovery Disks using the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Media Creator app the first day you had your new PC.
& made the Startup Repair CD.

Did you make the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Disks?

It depends how the oem has arranged their recovery program .

Usually there is a small .wim file on the recovery partition. That will be bootable and load into memory.

It contains an oem program which will find the larger .wim ( sometimes a lot of small split wims), which contain the restore image.

Those will be setup to restore the image to a particular place. Whether that will still work after moving it - doubtful.

However, you can use the wims to do it manually.

Suggest you make a copy of it anyway - then post screenshots of the contents - several pics as we need to see what is inside the folders on there.

Lots of apps will copy a partition - a partition manager like Partition Wizard free home edition, or easeus partition master free home edition , or macrium free I believe has a copy/clone type function.

I can't get that hdd to work again BUT my friend did make Recovery Discs. If it doesn't work, oh well eMachines gets $19.95 for disk.

Thank you for your time & help.

How to compare clone of a partition with source partition
I just cloned two partitions from a resident HDD to an auxiliary Momentus XL HDD in an enclosure that is connected to the computer via eSATA. How can I clone just my old C: drive/partition onto a new HDD?
I have an HP Pavilion drive less than a year old that is corrupt - I recovered the partitions and my data by mounting it as an external and using Test Disk. Boot Sectors are all OK, but the drive failed the self test when mounted so maybe bad sectors; TestDisk says it has Bad MFT and MFT Mirror...
