I use Acronis myself. No major issues, and its always been reliable for me.
I have 2012 as well as 2010, and ended up going back to 2010 as I find it more comfortable and easier to use. Sometimes simple is just better IMO.

Acronis TrueImage is an excellent imaging software. You can create an Acronis Safe Zone Partition with it which you can hide and it also allows backing up on an external hard disk.

Please carefully read and digest the TrueImage Manual to learn all about Acronis.

Im just really confused about acronis (got it from a giveaway) i just dont get why it wont let me backup on my external hdd, i might one day accidentally delete a partition or two with both backups in there.. Is there any options to create a hidden partition where acronis can store backups?

You can download the Manual in the PDF format from www.acronis.com/download/docs/atih2011/userguide for your version.

    SnipeMeNot,
I have Acronis '10 as well and it is worth it's purchase but for "set and forget it" the Auto Sync of Memeo is outstanding, real time running back up of multiple sources to multiple destinations and any change to either is made instantly to the other......it Sync's. Try it free and you'll be hooked. Acronis does more but it fails in this critical area.

I too use Acronis 2010 but only its boot CD. Like it better than any later versions. I have removed the Program from the computer by restoring an earlier image.

On joining here and reading the praises of Macrium, I download and installed the free version. After trying it out, I preferred the Acronis 2010 Boot CD and got rid of it. Perhaps it is the first application that one is attached too the most.

I have 2 partitions. A windows Partition which I image with Windows backup and paragon hard disk manager 12. Then clone my data partition with Casper 7 on a folder to folder basis. It does differential backups, first backup takes a long time but after that it's really fast.
