Windows could not finish configuring new image

Hi,

So I created an image earlier this week, sysprepped it and captured it after restarting the computer.

Settings were OOBE / Generalize / Restart.

When the computer had finished capturing the image to deploy studio, it restarted and went through the normal 'first run' procedures, but stopped during the configuration process saying:

"Windows could not finish configuring your system. Restart the computer to try again" or something similar.

I had a look at an earlier thread on here but the answer was similar to 'If you sysprep more than 3 times now it won't work'. I heard that changed last year though?


Any help is much appreciated, the only things I have installed on the image are 6 games from CD's at about 400mb each (on a 500gb 4gb core 2 duo machine).

Were you trying to create a BTP image or a BTO image?

Sysprep must be used only to configure new installations of Windows. You can run Sysprep as many times as required to build and to configure your installation of Windows. However, you can reset Windows activation only up to three times. You must not use Sysprep to reconfigure an existing installation of Windows that has already been deployed. Use Sysprep only to configure new installations of Windows.

What is Sysprep?

I was creating a BTP image, on a computer that had only had a mac image on it previously so I would assume it's not a problem with the multiple activations...

Update: I started the image again from scratch, and now I'm getting 'A fatal error occured while trying to sysprep the machine" as soon as I start the sysprep process...
