Windows 7: Macrium restore problem

Windows 7 Home Premium x64

Not the actual days but to make things a bit easier to understand...
I made an image on Monday.
On Wednesday I installed a programme.
On Friday I had to restore to Mondays image. On getting to the desktop the icon/dead shortcut to the programme installed on Wednesday was on the desktop. (I didn't uninstall the programme as figured there was no need as I was doing a restore.

did you try mounting the image & checking the image's desktop folder? does macrium list any images made after the wed. program installation? was the image you had restored a full or an incremental?

In my experience, when you back up the OS partition from Win7, MR makes a copy of that partition.

Then, when you restore from that backup, the partition is overwritten from the backup.

However, if you managed to somehow move your "Desktop" folder to a different partition, then when you did the restore, if that partition wasn't included, the folder would not change.
