But messy I mean that you cannot control it - it controls you. And it is unreliable too.

What do you mean by unreliable? This might seem like a stupid question, but is it possible to encrypt both partitions with BitLocker?

Unreliable means that I have seen many, many people that had made images with Windows 7 imaging but were unable to recover with those images - for a whole slew of different reasons.

To help those people, I have written a special tutorial: System Image - Recover a Broken Windows 7 System Image

Regarding encryption I cannot help you. I know nothing about it. My guess would be that encryption would complicate your life. But I would defer to a Guru who knows the ins and outs of encryption.

Nope. For Imaging I use Macrium myself and have it set to run automatically on a schedule. No need for a reminder, it just does it.

Windows backup does run silently, it's just I encrypt the drive and a message will appear in Action Center saying 'Not enough space' even though there is, it's just encrypted. But it's good to know that Macrium will do it too.
I encourage you guys to stay subscribed. As of right now, I don't need to backup to both partitions. When I run out of space I will, but I need to be sure this is the right thing to do.

I had a dual boot of winxp on C, and win7 on S. All partitions are NTFS. It was in this order: C, S, (ext4 7gb partition), F. I originally wanted to remove C and the ext4 partition, to have one larger win 7 partition. I had a lot of data I wanted to keep on S and F, and was pretty naive. I...

Backup to both partitions?
I'm going to be buying a new hard drive soon, and I'm going to be using both partitions on my 320GB Seagate hard drive for backup. But can you actually do that using the native Windows backup and how would you do so? I'm using BitLocker on the 1st partition, which is where my backup is. Would I be...

Does Win 7 Backup, also backup FAT Partitions?
I'm getting mixed signals on this. I use Acronis myself so there is no issue there. But, I have clients that want to only use the Windows 7 backup feature to backup the hard drive. Most of what I've seen, including the Tutorial on here, states the Windows 7 backup only backs up NTFS partitions...
