How can I turn off system backup?

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium Home Edition on a fairly new and modern PC. It has 4 GB memory.

There is something strange going on with one of my hard drives.

I have two internal hard drives (both 1T) and a third external drive that is also 1T.

All three drives have about 350 GB used and 600 GB free space. But the System Properties of the external drive reports that it is using about 850 GB and only has about 100 GB free. Something is occupying about 500 GB and it took me a long time to find it was some backup files. One of them is in the WindowsImageBackup folder and another is in the ADMIN-PC folder. I don't know if ADMIN-PC is a name that W7 uses for all PCs or if it uses that because the name of my PC is ADMIN-PC.

I recently dropped my PC and had to take it into the shop to be repaired. While it was there, I believe the technician setup some kind of automatic backup procedure because the F: drive shows only 100 GB free and I see two files whose names begin with "backup" that are extremely large. In total, they occupy about 500 GB.

I've never used W7's backup & restore feature and I would prefer to do my own backups.

Tonight I saw an icon over the Action Center and when I opened it, I saw that it said it is doing its regularly scheduled backup and it is scheduled to do a backup every Sunday night at 8 pm.

How can I turn off this automatic backup? I prefer to handle backups myself because there are some files that I want to backup but I don't need to backup most of them.

I opened the Control Panel and the section called "Backup Restore" but I couldn't find any info about terminating the automatic backups.

    Excellent!

That is exactly what I needed.

I can't believe that I failed to see the link "Turn off backups" in the upper left corner.

I know that I searched that page. But for some reason, I missed seeing that.

    Thank you again.

Now, I'd like to rep you. But guess what? I can't seem to find the way to do that. Let me know?

Go to Brian's post and click on the scales in the upper right corner.
